I always wonder what is Matt's position in the production--caz Trey writes the scripts, directs most of the episodes and voices most characters. Even in interviews, Trey is always the center of attention.

Then from a post from imdb.com, I learnt that Matt usually plays the defender for the team--he is the one who deals with the networks and fights for the show regarding its contents and censorships, due to Trey's dislike of confrontations. He is also the one who keep tracks of the schedules and budgets (Well, after all, he graduated with a Math degree~).

Indeed, in the real world, creativity itself is not enough to put a super-controversial show like South Park on TV, lots of negociations are needed in the process, and that is where Matt plays his part. Matt is the one who creates a free environment for Trey to express his creativity to the fullest.

Matt's existence seem very important for Trey too. I still remember this SUPER CUTE interactions between them in an interviews on Jimmy Kimmel Live(2005). Trey was telling the host how they always lost to the Simpson when they attended the the Emmy awards, then he seemed to lost his train of thoughts and stuttered (2:46 on the Youtube video "Trey and Matt on Kimmel"). He looked at Matt for help, Matt looked back at him and finished his sentence smoothly. (AH! THAT's LOVE!!!)
